Times New Roman In A Stright Jacket Clay Model

“A typeface is an alphabet in a strait jacket.” ~ Alan Fletcher
Clay figure inspired by quote, circa 2014.

Wiser Logo

The Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun commissioned me to design a logo and bespoke typeface for the WISER Project. This was part of a massive upcyling of one that areas most recognisable landmarks the power station. The inspiration for the letter forms came from existing machinery and signs that still lay about the then unrestored Power Station that acted as a landmark for many passerby. I was fortunate enough to have some guidance from the great type designer Bobby Tannam.

ReadDifferently was a project that intents to raise awareness of different ways to change the design and layout of reading and relieve stress for dyslexics. A project that is never ending in regard we are forever learning the possible causes and reasons behind such stress. I am currently working on a motion graphics and screen version of the style guide book below which is aimed for the individual read as well as teachers alike. Contact me in my about section if you want to learn more.

A Tale To Follow

A Tale To Follow Page Detail

A Printed detail of Roger our main character daydreaming in flight.

A book never published and sitting idly on a book is still a book mainly in the artist mind or something profound along those lines. A Tale to follow was my humble attempt at explaining what a visual stress looks like when experienced. How can a young child explain to a parent what is going on in the eyes when the words escape them.  This is another project which I intend to bring to a digital format in 2020.

Blueprint for a Storm

Exhibition Poster, 2016.

Designed by Conor Clarke at Department of Communication Design, NCAD
Conor Clarke — Design & Typography
John Fogarty — Image Melts

I was honoured when asked by Conor Clarke to work on the artwork for a poster of a Russell Mills exhibition poster. As a result I got to deal with Mills directly and found he was very open minded when I distorted his art to create the dept in the poster above.

"Step Into The Eighteenth Century. Unchanged for three centuries, this perfectly preserved library of the early Enlightenment, with its original oak bookcases, houses more than 25,000 rare and fascinating books."
As a student in BCFE I was honoured to win a completion for my design of the libraries 2012 exhibition poster for Marvels of Science, Books that changed the world. My love of digital painting in colour on the old books illustrations rings true here.
